Eye of the Storm Presentations

The Eye of the Storm presentations are done at the end of the competition, after the Positive Flash Gala. The presentations are spit into two sections, our Overall High Score Awards and Eye of the Storm Awards.

Overall High Score Awards

An Overall High Score Winner is announced from each Age Group in each Performance Division. The highest scoring routine (whether it is a Solo, Duo/Trio, Group or Line) is recognised. Each Overall High Score Winner receives a plaque for their achievement and is listed in the results page on the Web site. One of these routines will be recognised as the Highest Score of the competition in the Eye of the Storm Awards.

Eye of the Storm Awards

Eye of the Storm Award winners are selected across all divisions and dance styles. The winning routines are selected by a panel that includes the judges and Competition Director(s) and reflect various types of criteria listed below.

Dance Spirit

This is a special award chosen by our backstage staff and can be awarded to a dancer, routine, or studio that combines both their passion for dance with positive spirt towards others.

Most Entertaining

This award is chosen based on the energy and spirit of the performance over technique. It is often a routine that engages the audience and is enjoyed by those performing. The most entertaining award is open to all forms and divisions.

Dance Excellence

This award is chosen for a routine that exemplifies fierce technique throughout the performance. Routines are evaluated based on execution of the technique for a particular dance category. The Dance Excellence award will be announced and posted in the online results as Dance Excellence in "the particular dance category". For instance, Dance Excellence in Tap.

Star Talent Scholarship

This award is based present to the dancer from the Star Talent Program that demonstrates the ability to absorb the choreography and perform it with sound technique.

Thunderbolt Solo

This award is based on highest score of entries into the Thunderbolt Solo category. Full details are available on the Thunderbolt Solo Page.

People's Choice Award

This will be awarded to a group performance with ground shaking energy to represent the each regional for Thunderstruck Canada. One performance is selected from each Regional. The winning routine will be showcased on the Thunderstruck Canada You Tube channel. The winner will be selected based on the results of online voting. Dates for voting will be announced in the near future.

Off the Charts Choreography

This Off the Charts award pays tribute for the creativity, hard work and persistence required by a choreographer to train a dancers(s) to deliver a memorable performance that tells a compelling story and combines originality, technique and is executed with the precision required of a well-rehearsed routine.

Highest Overall Score

This award is simply the highest overall score for a performance in the competition. It is open to all divisions and all forms of dance. The overall score is the combination of technical, choreography, performance marks, age/skill level and costume points.

Top Studio

We have introduced a new calculation for Top Studio. Top Studio is calculated using a point system. Solos and Duo/Trios will be calculated using a fixed point system. Small and Large Groups will be calculated using a factored point system. Points will be allocated using the exact number of entries within a specific section and applying a multiple within that section only. Points will be awarded to the Top Five (5) routines from the overalls of each age group and category regardless of performance division.

The Top Studio at each of our Regional Competitions will win a trip accommodations for themselves plus a guest at the Top Studio Challenge.
