Eye of the Storm Awards

These awards are presented at the end of the Competition. Award winners are selected across all divisions and dance styles (with the exception of the Tap Excellence Award).

Each of these award winners will be listed in the results for the Regional Competition.

Tap Excellence

This award is chosen by the Judges who use a criteria of score, choreography, performance and technique to select the best tap performance from the competition.

Off the Charts (OTC) - Best Choreography

This Off the Charts award is selected by the Judges and can include any form of dance. It pays tribute for the creativity, hard work and persistence required by a choreographer to train a dancers(s) to deliver a memorable performance that tells a compelling story and combines originality, technique and is executed with the precision required of a well-rehearsed routine.

Most Entertaining

This award is chosen by the Judges with a focus on the energy and spirit of the performance over technique. It is often a routine that engages the audience and is enjoyed by those performing. The most entertaining award is open to all forms and divisions.

Highest Overall Score

This award is simply the highest overall score for a performance in the competition. It is open to all divisions and all forms of dance. The overall score is the combination of technical, choreography, performance marks, age/skill level and costume points.

Broadway Bound International Award

This award is offered to the dancer that shows not only exceptional triple threat talent, but who has aspirations to be on Broadway, in films, or in the dance reality show circuit. BBI is a two-day, high intensity, compilation of masterclasses taught by well known choreographers and/or artists from current Broadway shows, TV series' such as Glee, SYTYCD, and America's Got Talent, and from concert performers from companies such as Mia Michaels and Twyla Tharp. Classes are smaller so the individual gets more room to dance and, above all, personal attention from their faculty. This BBI scholarship is good for any 2012 Canadian or U.S. city. FDC People's Choice Award

Judge's will select a group performance with ground shaking energy to represent the each regional for Thunderstruck Canada. One performance is selected from each Regional. The of winning routine is showcased on the FDC Web site. The winner will be selected based on the results of online voting. The voting window will be the last two weeks in June 2011.

Thunderbolt Solo

This award is based on highest score of entries into the Thunderbolt Solo category. Full details are available on the Thunderbolt Solo Page.

Top Studio

This award is selected based on the calculation of a studio's top solo, top duo or trio (whichever is higher) and top four (4) group (small and large) or line scores. The highest overall score wins and is awarded the Top Studio Award. In order to qualify, a studio must have a minimum of 25 routines entered in the competition.

The Top Studio at each of our Regional Competitions will win a cruise for two. The cruise is set to sail in August of 2011.
